When Should I Prepare My Garden For Winter?
So, there is no exact answer as to when you should start preparing your garden for Winter, but there are suggestions. Experts say to wait until the first frost, which is usually at the end of October or at the beginning of November. This will be important as you are helping your garden to survive during this colder season, so planning and preparing in advance is key to success! Winter gardening is mostly cleaning up outdoors around the garden, but there may be other tasks that require your attention too, which we'll tell you more about below!
What Do I Do With My Garden In The Winter?
It's a good idea to start preparing your garden for Winter before it turns colder and you won't want to spend much time out there! This is a good time to start removing weeds that may have sprung up while plants were growing, and make sure to remove any dead plants at this time too. You will also be gathering leaves and generally tidying up the garden, flower beds and any other area of your outdoor space that could do with a little clean! Store any items left out from Summer or Autumn if you can, either in your garden shed or garden storage box. If you don't have space to store your garden furniture inside, then make sure you use a garden furniture cover to keep it well protected!
How Can I Make My Garden More Colourful In Winter?
If we get snow in Winter then your garden can look beautiful covered in fluffy white snow, but if you're looking for ways to make your garden more colourful in those colder months, then you've come to the right place! Firstly, plant some flowers! Just because it's Winter doesn't mean that you can't plant some brightly coloured flowers to brighten up your outdoor space. Fire pits are a great way to warm up and brighten your garden. This would look great on a patio and you could even use some outdoor garden lights to try and recreate some of those Summer garden vibes!
How Do I Prepare My Garden For Winter?
Preparation and planning are both signs of a good gardener, and we're here to make sure that you and your garden are ready for those colder months ahead! It's a good time to put out bird feed or invest in a bird feeder if you don't already have one and ensure that the birds also have access to a birdbath! They need lots of help during the Winter months, so keep them topped up with seeds and nuts. A good tip is to keep everything clean, empty plant pots out and tidy them up. You can then see what you have for the season and what you need to get. If there any bushes or hedges that are overgrowing, this is the perfect time to cut them back now that their leaves have been shed.
